Here are my notes on how I got Dundjinni working on
Windows 8.1

Ordering the software

You can order the software from:

http://www.dundjinni.com/comersus/store/comersus_listCate
goriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=5

HOWEVER, you must pay with credit card, as the paypal
seller is no longer valid. Once you pay, you get taken to
an orders page that contains the link to the software,
and the registration key.

COPY THE KEY to your local computer for safe keeping.
Then click the download link. This link can take up to 10
minutes to begin to download. I've no idea why.

You can also order the art packs in the same way.

Installing the software on Windows 8.1

In order to install Dundjinni, you must install it to a
location other than c:\program files(x86) even though
this is the default location. The system doesn't allow
write access to this location.

Right click on the installer Dundjinni_PC_107.exe, and
select 'Run As Administrator'. This will install the
software. Set the path as C:\apps\Dundjinni

Installing the art packs

Once the software is installed, you must set the
permission on the install folder so the art packs can be
installed. Do this by following the below steps:

 Browse to the installation folder C:\apps\Dundjinni

 Right click on the folder and select Properties.

 Click the Security tab.

 Click the Edit button.

 Then Click the Add button.

 Type in 'everyone' then click 'Check Names'. This
should change the name slightly.

 Click Ok.

 Then select the Allow box under Full Control. All the
check boxes should show checks.

 Click Apply, then Ok.

This is where it gets tricky. The art packs are download
as .jar files. In order to install them, you need to
download the Install DLL from:

http://www.dundjinni.com/info/files/installer_dll.zip

Download installer_dll.zip and extract (the extracted
file is named ICE_JNIRegistry.dll). Make sure it's in the
same folder as your .jar files.

Now you need to turn off UAC. However, turning off UAC is
not trivial in Windows 8. The reason is that the Metro
Apps require this to run. However, we can turn it off
completely temporarily by following these steps:

1. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > User Access
Control and move the slider to the bottom. However,
unlike previous versions of windows, this does not
entirely turn off UAC.

2. From the search charm in the desktop, search for
regedit.exe and click it to start. Warning:

Regedit makes very low level changes to your system.
If the instructions aren't followed exactly, you can do
irreversible damage. Tread carefully.

3. Once Regedit is open, browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\Policies\System

4. Double click on EnableLUA and set it from 1 to 0

5. Close Regedit and reboot

6. When the computer restarts, browse to the .jar file
and double click. This time it should prompt you for the
name and registration key that you received from
Dundjinni. Note: Windows 8.1 Metro Apps will not work at
this point, but we'll fix that next.

7. Once ALL the .jar files have been installed, open
Regedit again (See Step 2).

8. Browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\Policies\System

9. Set EnableLUA back to 1

10. Reboot.

Now the Metro Apps should work, and you should have a
full working install of Dundjinni!

That's great news that you were able to purchase and install Dundjinni. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks to NinetyNEIN for the instructions.

I was able to get the program up and running and have the campaign art pack working as well.

The problem I have run into is that none of the basic textures and objects are displaying in program.

So I will start a new drawing and select Dungeon and then I have all the options for the various types of fills and objects but all they are is the name, the display for the preview is just a gray box. If I try to place it on the map nothing is there.

Has anyone had this problem?
Does anyone have a solution for me?

Thanks

If I remember correctly this happens on Vista and Win 7 systems sometimes because DJ was installed with the User Accounts Control turned on. If you uninstall DJ, Turn UAC off, then reinstall, the problem usually is fixed.

I'm running Windows 7 and very happy with it, any reason I would want to go to 10?

Absolutely not I'm running 7 too, I just have a newer gaming laptop that came with Windows 8 so I upgraded it. I DO NOT recommend dumping windows 7 for 10, only if you have windows 8.
